This excursion was really fun! Despite it being the 5th most haunted place in the world, I enjoyed everything from the relaxing ferry ride to entertaining and informative trolley tour. My favorite part of the tour was the “scariest” part of the tour, the Malinta Tunnel. I was a really unique experience and definitely worth the extra money. I wasn't scared during the actual tour, but looking back, it was actually a pretty creepy experience. I definitely would’ve have done that part by myself.
Aside from being slightly creepy, parts of the excursion were actually a bit sad. From the many people that lost their lives there, to the current pollution and garbage problem the island is facing, it reminded me of some of the problems we are facing in Hawaii. Corregidor Island is actually a very beautiful place and it’s crazy to think that it has a history hardship, death, and war.
Nevertheless, I still appreciated and enjoyed the rich learning experience this excursion provided. In addition, this excursion, like many of the others, really showed me the numerous and interesting ways that Hawaii and the Philippines are connected. Historically, culturally, and physically, these two sets of islands that I both call home, have a lot of similarities.
